Telehealth Informed Consent
Effective Date: June 7, 2026
This page provides an informational overview of telehealth at Orchid Psychiatry LLC. Formal informed consent is obtained from each patient before treatment begins. This page is provided so you know what to expect.
What Is Telehealth?
Telehealth (also called telemedicine) is the use of secure, real-time audio and video technology to provide psychiatric care at a distance. With telehealth, you can meet with Dr. Sharma from a private location of your choosing rather than traveling to an office.
Benefits
- Greater convenience and access to care without travel or waiting rooms.
- Care from the comfort and privacy of your own space.
- Continuity of care across the State of Missouri.
Potential Risks
- Technical issues such as poor connection or interruptions may affect a visit.
- In rare cases, electronic information could be disrupted or accessed by unauthorized persons despite reasonable safeguards.
- Certain conditions may require in-person evaluation, testing, or a higher level of care that telehealth cannot provide.
Technology Requirements
You will need a private, quiet space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. Connection details for your secure video visit will be provided before your appointment.
Privacy
We use secure technology and follow HIPAA requirements to protect your information. Please review our HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices for details on how your protected health information is handled.
Consent Before Treatment
Informed consent for telehealth is reviewed and obtained from each patient before treatment begins. You may withdraw your consent to telehealth at any time without affecting your right to future care.
Missouri Only
Telehealth services are available only to patients physically located in the State of Missouri at the time of the visit.
Emergency Limitations
Telehealth is not appropriate for emergencies. If you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you are in crisis, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (dial 988).
